Sergei Prokofiev

War and Peace

Война и мир

Sergei Prokofiev's monumental work, in the stage version by Andrei Konchalovsky and Irkin Gabitov, impresses both with the boldness of the composer's original concept and its masterful, virtuosic execution, which has found an equally grand realization in the Mariinsky Theatre's production. The cinematic approach to the staging makes the performance incredibly spectacular and striking: like frames from a film, scenes of dazzling balls, everyday life, and battle sequences follow one after another.

The screening will take place as part of the festival "Prokofiev is Ours!", dedicated to the 135th anniversary of the composer's birth.

Musical director and conductor: Valeriy Gergiev.

Salzburg: La Traviata

This recording of Verdi’s "La Traviata" from the 2005 Salzburg Festival – the uncontested and hopelessly sold-out highlight of the festival season – captures the triumphal performance not only of Anna Netrebko as Violetta Valéry, but also of Rolando Villazón as her lover Alfredo.
