Sergei Prokofiev

Ivan the Terrible

Иван Грозный

Drawing on the music composed by Prokofiev, not historical accuracy concerning the Tsar’s life, Ivan the Terrible is Yuri Grigorovich’s powerful and fascinating choreography, dramatizing Ivan the Terrible’s controversial reign. The powerful ballet comprises the Tsar’s ascension to the throne, his marriage, defeats, victories, massacres, murders, and much more. Visually striking images of the rich and lyrical epic make this performance an essential part of Bolshoi’s repertoire. The title roles are held by Mikhail Lobukhin, Anna Nikulina, and Denis Rodkin.
